Revival95 is a customisable short-film/game hybrid combined with multiple design mediums (archviz/automotive/retail & fashion) to create an all-in-one application that aims to create a new form of home entertainment experience.

Built in Unreal Engine 5 (tech demo built in UE4), and designed to take advantage of RTX systems, the application combines real-time gameplay mechanics, with mixed reality virtual production techniques, to allow viewers to become both players and directors from the comfort of their own home. Taking place inside an interactive cityscape, the application allows for instant take over gameplay, countless customisation options, and allows viewers to take an expanded look into the films world and lore via a vehicle configurator, an arch viz demonstration, and even a (working) virtual store.

Inspired by WipEout, the futuristic racing series that first appeared on the original PlayStation back in 1995, the film follows one night in the life of Neve: a young woman who dreams of becoming the first ever, female anti-gravity racing champion.

Imagine you’re watching Neve take part in one of her races, and you notice she takes a corner a little too slow or too fast, and you start to wonder if maybe you could beat her lap time. What if rather than waiting to see how that race was meant to finish, you could hit a button, and jump straight into the pilots seat yourself.

Perhaps you want to watch the race from a different angle, maybe from up in a high rise apartment, or from out at sea on a luxury yacht. What if instead of seeing the film from the cameras perspective, you wanted to feel the energy of the crowd by actually standing in it as the race goes on.

Maybe you wish the ships were wearing different liveries, or that the race took place during the day rather than at night. What if you could pause the film, look around and change the things you didn’t like, then hit play again and see your vision for the film come alive on screen.

By taking a film/game hybrid and combining it with multiple design mediums, the project aims to provide viewers with unrivaled creative freedom and expansive content. Revival95 is an explorative look into the future of film-making and home entertainment, and aims to become a shining example of how films and games could be made in the future, now.
